What is a Mainboard IPO?

A Mainboard IPO (Initial Public Offering) is the process through which a privately held company offers its shares to the public for the first time and gets listed on recognised stock exchanges such as the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited. Through this process, investors can subscribe to the company’s shares and become shareholders in the business.

Companies launching a Mainboard IPO are generally large, well-established organisations that meet regulatory requirements, including a minimum post-issue paid-up capital of ₹10 crore. The primary objective of a Mainboard IPO is to raise capital for business expansion, debt repayment, working capital needs, or strategic growth initiatives. It also provides an opportunity for existing promoters and early investors to unlock value from their investments while enhancing the company’s visibility, credibility, and market presence.
