What is External Authenticator (TOTP) in Password & Security?

External Authenticator (TOTP) refers to the use of an external app, which can be downloaded from google play store to generate a Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) for logging into your Share India trading account or performing sensitive actions.

To enable TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) follow the below steps

  • Open the Share India app and go to your Profile.
  • Navigate to Settings > Password & Security.
  • Under Two-Factor Authentication, tap on External Authenticator to enable the feature.

A pop-up will appear — click on Continue.

Enter the OTP (received on your registered mobile/email) and click on Verify Code.

Once verified, a new interface will open displaying two options:

  • QR Code
  • Copy Code

You can proceed with either of the following methods:

A. By QR Code:

  • Open the External Authenticator App
  • Tap on the plus (+) icon.
  • Select Scan a QR code.
  • Scan the QR code displayed on the screen.

B. By Copy Code:

  • Click on Copy Code.
  • Open the External Authenticator App
  • Tap on the plus (+) icon.
  • Select Enter a setup key.
  • Under Account Name, enter your Client Code.
  • In the Key field, paste the copied code.
  • Choose Time-based if prompted.
  • Click Add.

Your TOTP setup is now complete. Use the code generated in the Authenticator app for future logins.

  • A temporary 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.
  • Generated by an authenticator app installed on your smartphone.
  • Used as part of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).
